Mainlines

The 'Mainlines' network cover the frequent services connecting the majority of people across Leicester to the City Centre.

Each 'Mainline' is a group of one or more routes serving a common area of Leicester, often by different bus operators.

The majority of transformation investment will be targeted at these lines, providing:

  • electric buses branded in Leicester Buses green livery

  • bus priority measures

  • contactless tap-on, tap-off ‘best fare’ ticketing

  • real time information displays

  • new shelters

The partnership is also making these organisational integration improvements:

  • joint operation to give regularly spaced timetables

  • joint timetable information and mapping at all stops

  • removing duplicate route numbering

  • limiting number of timetable changes to 4 per year

26 of the 30 Mainlines are now at or above our frequency standard:

  • every 15 mins daytime Monday - Saturday

  • every 30 mins in the evening and Sundays.

From 2026-2030 we will be seeking funding to increase frequency on the remaining four: Orbital, Hospital Hopper, 74, 13
